During the war, the Italian armed forces would give blank postcards
to its military personnel so they could
maintain contact with their families;
since they were free of charge because
paid by the government, they were called
“Franchigie”. Below is the picture of an
envelope belonging to a letter sent by a
seaman of the destroyer Malocello to his
family, where the name of the ship named
after our navigator is clearly visible.

Curiously, no country remembered Lanzarotto Malocello, except the
small Republic of Cape Verde, which dedicated a fifty crown stamp to
him; see the picture below, where you can see his imagined profile both as
a young and an old man.
