In this campaign, we already see the most outstanding features of
Garibaldi the patriot and the warrior. As patriot, he felt and echoed all the
pains of his country and stood out as a giant among a crowd of ordinary peo-
ple. He cried out the need for brotherhood, the idea of freedom, of a war
fought by all until the country was set free. As a warrior, his action, although
limited, already displayed the sparks of his future heroic greatness.
