How Jean de Bethencourt and Gadifer de la Salle departed from Spain
and arrived in Lanzarote. Plate found in “Le Canarien”.
d) Immediately following is a quotation from a document of the Nation-
al Library of Paris - found by de la Roncière - dated 1659. In which
descendants (who settled in Normandy) named De Maloisel claimed
the discovery of the island by their ancestor in the year 1312; at that
time, the island was called by the natives “Titeroygatra”. Moreover, he
reportedly had stayed on the island (erecting the aforementioned castle)
for about twenty years, before being driven out by the natives.
e) Caddeo mentions incidenter tantum the Spanish Friar of the Libro del
Conoscimiento to report the news that, according to this author, Lan-
zarotto had allegedly been assassinated on the Island by the natives.
