                                    THE COLLOQUIUM

                                                            11
An ambitious meeting by the provocative theme The Mediterranean as an
                                                                         11
element of Sea Power", borrowed from the first great Theorician of the Sea Power".
The examination of the evolution of Sea Power across the centuries, in the

sea the Romans called Mare Npstrum", tracing the History of our civilization
                                11
in a maritime' key from the origin to modern times.
It is also an extremely up-to-date subject in a time of great uncertainty in
the evolution of the national politica! and strategica[ situations.

The Mediterranean geopolitica/ area, including the Red Sea, the Persian Golf
and the Africa Horn, is infact an area of politica! instability, rich of energy resou-
ces, where international interests converging make it one of the most sensitive areas
           of the planet.

It is not by chance that this meeting has been planned to be held in Italy,
being it at the center of this sea in alt its lenght and where immense national politi-
ca/ and economie interests are concentrated.

Furthermore, the meeting will be held in Venice, in the ancient arsenal of
the userenissima Repubblica", queen of the Mediterranean for many centuries, and
which through Sea Power in the more complete sense of the term, had bui/t its
           splendid opulence.

The colloquium is certainly an ambitious meeting which due to the presence
of highly qualified lecturers and attendees assures excellent results.
