i.e. armored tanks. In the British Telegraph in 2012, an article was written about British
pilot, Blyth, who flew RAF Venom over the Green Mountain in 1957. We can learn from
such article about the RAF role in the fighting. The article was as follow:
In the aftermath of Suez, trouble in central Oman flared up in July 1957. No 8 was
ordered to Sharjah, and within days Blyth was leading strikes against rebel positions in
the Jebel Akhdar region. Operating in support of land forces, the Venoms attacked for-
tifications with rockets, and Blyth led his squadron with great dash and efficiency until

returning to Britain in December that year .
The RAF during that Green Mountain’s war had flown 450 Shackleton sorties and
1,050 Venom sorties; 1750 tons of bombs were dropped; 3,843 rocket projectiles & ap-
proximately 100,000 pounds of supplies were air dropped, with uncounted leaflets. A far
as communications the RAF aircrafts flew approximately 2000 sorties carrying supplies,
freight, evacuating casualties , and on reconnaissance tasks .
