9. The Operations of Mandala Navy.
The operations of Mandala Navy on Infiltration Phase were conducted by Mandala
Navy Submarines such as:
a. Antareja Operation.

It was conducted from February 28 to May 2 1962 with RI Nanggala submarine.
She observed the port cities along the coast of West Irian by patrolling to enemy
territorial water.
b. Alugara Operation.
With the elements of Submarine Units, they had jobs to sink the enemy’s warships
and merchant ships along the northern coast of West Irian. This operation was

conducted since July 28 to August 26 1962, but ordered back on August 15
th
th
1962 because the New York agreement.
c. Cakra Operation.

This operation was conducted from July 20 till July 29 1962 and used RI
th
Submarines Unit. Their jobs were observing the important port cities in West
Irian by free hunting and border clash.
d. Lumba-lumba Operation.
On June 25 1962, RI Candrasa, RI Trisula, and RI Nagarangsang Submarines

dived close the target and beached the troops at around Kotabaru. RI Candrasa
beached part of troops at Tanah Merah, Kotabaru. Meanwhile the others
submarines could not infiltrate the troops because she always got contact with the
Dutch aircraft and Destroyer ship.
e. Gurita Operation.
Gurita Operation was planned on June 28 till 30 1962 to conduct reconnaissance

at Kaimana Bay for infiltration by using 5 Motor Torpedo Boats (MTB). Because
of the enemy fleet power was in Kaimana Bay, this plan was canceled.

10. The Formation of Air Combat Units.
The Combat Units (KT) was formed as Mandala Air Forces bases for its aircrafts in
the eastern side of Indonesia near the border of West Irian. Those Combat Units (KT)
were:
a. KT Senopati, at Morotai airbase, consisting of aircraft IL-28, Mig-17, B-25/26,
C-47 Dakota, Albatros / Catalina and Helicopters. The task of KT Senopati was
st
preparing itself to be ready in combat condition on June 1 1962.
b. KT Baladewa consisted of 6 transport aircrafts C-47 Dakota and based on
Hasannudin Airbase, Makassar and had ability in transporting personnel, logistics,
war victims, and SAR tasks as well as flight review.
c. KT Bima Sakti was based at Letfuan Airbase with 4 planes of B-25, 2 planes
of B-26, 6 planes of P-51 Mustang, and 1 Catalina aircraft. The duties were
protecting the Navy patrol at the border area, destroying the determined targets in
West Irian, assisting other forces, and conducting aerial photography.
