Jatayu operation was conducted on August 14 1962 and had same task with
Rajawali Operation.

CHAPTER IV - EXPLOITATION PHASE AND JAYAWIJAYA OPERATION PREPARATION

12. The Preparation of Exploitation Phase and Jayawijaya Operation.
In the middle of 1962, the diplomatic struggle progress had forced the development
of military situation to accelerate the plan for 6 months forward. The evaluation result
showed that the infiltration through sea was difficult to be conducted because many
interceptions from the Dutch Navy. However, the jumping operation from the air was
more successful. This situation encouraged the further open operation as a part of
Exploitation Phase called Jayawijaya Operation.
According to the calculation of political achievement and the own capabilities, the
Mandala Command had decided important targets that must be occupied. Biak as the
enemy’s center of military defense was becoming main target. The other targets were
Kotabaru and Kaimana as political targets, Biak, Sorong, and Kaimana as military
targets, and Merauke as psychological target.

Considering that, the Operation Instruction No. POPS-06/SR/6/62 on June 20 1962
was issued. That instruction was about the seizure of Biak and the amphibious beaching
which was preceded by the grounding of paratroops. The phases of operation were as
follows:
a. Jayawijaya I Operation with the duty of taking over the air and sea superiority.
b. Jayawijaya II Operation with the duty of seizing Biak area by vertical attack
from Task Unit I and II, as well as horizontal attack from Amphibious Task Force
(ATA) -17.
c. Jayawijaya III Operations with the duty of seizing Kotabaru area which was
conducted by Combat Unit of Gatotkaca.
d. Jayawijaya IV Operation with the duty of seizing Kotabaru area which was
conducted by Combat Unit and strengthened by Lesmono Division.

For air combat, AULA had formed Combat Units which placed as follows:
a. Combat Unit (KT) Parikesit at Morotai airbase.
b. KT Antareja at Amahai airbase.
c. KT Aswatama at Pattimura/ Ambon airbase.
d. KT Wisanggeni at Letfuan airbase.
e. KT Wesiaji at Iswahyudi air base Madiun.
f. KT Anggada at Halim Perdanakusuma air base Jakarta.

The units of maritime defense were included:
a. Torpedo fast boat units or KKCT-16.
