in Piedmont . The Palermo Carabinieri legion commander wrote about Cavedagni: “He
was under my command when I was in Carabinieri cadets legion, I am very proud to
propose him to you, Sir, putting him a good word not for his interests but for duty
12
needs” . It is important to specify that Cavedagni during the Castelvetrano Station
Command period received a special mention because, together with two carabinieri,
arrested two people indicted of money extortion to a rich people of that area. 13
First of all, on April 16th the General Command stated that all the personnel should be
placed under the Naples Carabinieri legion . The legion commander received orders to
14
verify the health condition, the equipment, armament and uniforms. Besides, he should
take the other part of uniforms of the personnel. The warrant officer, as well, brought
with him a small case of office supplies.
Initially, the Assab station should be under the Naples carabinieri legion but the
next year this solution was evaluated as not acceptable because the four men were in
the strength of the legion that could not re-enforce another station in Italy because the
number of the personnel abroad.
The Carabinieri general commander was more precise. He specified that the
communications between the legion and Assab station should be very simply and easy,
suggesting a weekly or decadal report about duty and needs of the station to send with
the postal boat. He underlined that he would have accepted all the suggestion of the
Naples carabinieri commander to secure a very good job of the Assab personnel to be
sure that the prestige and the good fame of the Carabinieri corps should be preserved as
usual in that far region too.
According to the order of War ministry, the personnel left Naples to Assab bay with
the ship of the navigazione generale italiana. In particular, the warrant officer Cavedagni
15
left with a musket even if he was promoted warrant officer .
Reading papers on the subject the uniforms were not so useful. The military dresses
11 Hte three carabinieri were 28, 24 and 24 and hald years old when they accepted to go to the colony.
