               between  Domingo  Ramos  and  Juana  Perdomo  showing the  following
               clause, “we  declare  to  be  in  possession  of  two  fanegas  (13,500  square
               meters x 2) of agricultural land where it says: the tower adjoining the
               old castle, which we had bought from Juana Cabrera, widow of Domingo
               Sanchez”. This document confirms the existence atop Guanapay mountain
               of a tower and a fortified enclosure, which must have been built by Lan-
               zarotto.
                  As we said, Malocello remained on the island for about twenty years,
               until he was driven out by a revolt of the natives; according to Augustín
               Pallarés Padilla, at that time Lanzarote was divided into two separate king-
               doms by a dry stone wall that crossed the whole width of the island.
                  The famous Libro del Conocimiento provides evidence of this division
               into two different kingdoms as follows, “a general revolt of the islanders
               who expelled him (i.e. Lanzarotto) from the island with the help of all the
               inhabitants”. The above, according to Pallarés Padilla, and especially the
               additional specification “of all the inhabitants”, implies that the natives of
