At the place of fascist imperialism stands US-imperialism [...].“
                                                                          36
These quotations summarize the main statements of the socialist master-narrative
and represent the important discourses of the official war commemoration: In accor-
diance with the East-German ideology of Antifacism, the imperialist part of Germany
was shown to be responsible for the war, whereas the Communists, with the help of the
Soviet Army, were the saviors of Europe. With this achievement in mind, it is the combat
league of the Warsaw-Pact States who will have the right to intervene in future struggles.
The presentation of the US-Imperialists as direct successors to the German Fascists
supported the aggressive Cold War rhetorics in those days. Another purpose of the exhi-
bition was the legitimization for the soviet troops in East-Germany. The insight into the
room on the photo no. 12 shows the museal implementation of this legitimization. On
the left hand side, one can see the Red Army Soldier who rescues a little german child
from the burning battlefield of Berlin and on the right hand side a Red Army Soldier who
          stops a potential enemy.
