UAE forces were the first to arrive at the Flag Public Square in Kuwait City; the first
company of the UAE Task Force arrived there at 6:00 A.M and joined Kuwaiti resist-
ance elements and Kuwaiti sons camped there. Then, the remaining forces arrived at
10:00 A.M, and scenes of jubilation overwhelmed the city celebrating liberation and
victory banners mixed through raising the Kuwaiti and UAE flags.
Our Armed Forces engaged effectively in the Kuwait Liberation War as part of the
international coalition forces and GCC forces. The operation consisted of three phases
as follows:

- Desert Shield Phase, which began after the invasion and ended on February 23
1991.
- Participant Force Structure: Infantry Battalion+.
- Deployment Area: Hafr Al Baten, Saudi Arabi.
Reasons of Desert Shield Operation
From the very beginning of the crisis and few days after the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait,
the GCC forces were defending the Northern borders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
against Iraqi threats. Thus, solidarity was achieved among GCC states in that critical
stage of their history. The forces took their positions in the Eastern and Northern areas
under the command of the Joint Commander Lieutenant General Khaled bin Sultan. The
