- Removing war debris, and repairing and restoring services.
- Collecting materiel from the battle field.
- Organizing the return of some Kuwaiti families from the UAE to Kuwait aboard the
Air Forces Aircraft.
- Establishing checkpoints and maintaining security.
- Securing, observing and defending the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border along a front of 45 kilo-
meters.
The United Arab Emirates also took the following steps:
- Sending all types of humanitarian relief.
- Sending equipped ambulances for urgent surgical cases.
- Sending an administrative and medical team to Kuwait to assess the situation first-
hand and supervising distribution of rations and food relief to Kuwaiti families in
coordination with the Red Crescent and Ministry of Health.
Summary
The Iraqi aggression towards Kuwait led to different points of view among the Arab
countries but it reinforced, at the same time, synergy among the Gulf countries on the
popular and governmental level, and thus it emerged that concerted international efforts
were required to expel Iraqi Forces from Kuwait.
The Military Operations were divided into three phases:
1. Operation Desert Shield: it was the operation of political and military preparedness
based on UN resolutions.
