           2. Operation Desert Storm: it was the main effort of the attack, whether by air strikes or
missiles, followed by the ground attacks to liberate Kuwait.
           3. Following liberation of Kuwait, another phase started to remove mines and extin-
guish burning oil fields, and then for gradual troop withdrawal and return back to
              their home countries.

The UAE Armed Forces were effective throughout all stages and from the first phase.
Lessons Learnt From Kuwait Liberation War include the following:
           1. Importance of cooperation and integration among the GCC Forces in terms of their
              weapon systems and training.
           2. Improvement of the GCC Forces and laying down common policies to confront any
              potential threat.
           3. Importance of laying down a security strategy for the Arabian Gulf Region.
           4. There is a need to pay attention to the security of the region, because it reflects on the
Arabian Gulf security as a whole.
           5. There is a need to improve relationships among the GCC Countries in particular, and
Arab and friendly nations in general.
           6. There is a need to resolve conflicts among the region’s countries and to respect exist-
              ing political and geographical boundaries.
           7. There is a need to maintain joint military exercises among the GCC Forces, with
              emphasis on joint logistics.
