               Giovanni Da Carignano’s map and the other

               medieval nautical charts


                       s mentioned above,  the map by Giovanni  da Carignano was
                       destroyed. However, in a rare 1882 text of the Società Geografica
                       Italiana  (Italian  Geographic  Society),  self-published  in  Rome,
               entitled Biografia dei viaggiatori italiani [Biography of Italian travelers],
               written  by Amat di San Filippo, there  is a long appendix containing  a
               copious  list  of  nautical  charts,  including  the  following,  identified  as
               number 9:
                  9 - PRIEST GIOVANNI DA CARIGNANO.
