Dr. John PEATY is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and of the Royal
Historical Society. He has been for many years the International Secretary of the British
Commission for Military History. He is a member of the Royal United Services Institute,
British Cartographic Society (Council Member), Institute for Historical Research (Life
Member), Society for Army Historical Research (Council Member) and RAF Historical
Society (Founder Member). He has lectured widely on military history to both specialist
and non-specialist audiences both in the UK and abroad. He has contributed to volumes
of essays and has published articles on military history. Dr Peaty is an inveterate
battlefield tourer. In his youth he was an avid wargamer.
