Landing on Lebanon Beach -
“Operation Peace for Galilee”
Two additional squad teams
of Naval commando fight-
ers were deployed north of
the town of Sidon in order to
prevent reinforcement of en-
emy forces from reaching the
beachhead from the north and
to intercept fleeing terrorists
from the south.
Shortly before the first landing, the commando troops on the beachhead eliminated
two groups of terrorists that approached the site, thereby creating a secured gateway for
the landing troops. The Naval activities in sea and on shore have eliminated the need
for any air support.
In spite of continuous shooting and shelling at Naval forces, no troops were injured.
During the first 10 days of the operation, the Navy has delivered and landed 388 vehicles
and about 1000 troops. In the following three months the Navy delivered 1087 vehicles
to and from Lebanon.
